Conservatives File Federal Civil Rights Complaint Against PPS’s Center for Black Student Excellence

Candice Grose, chief of communications for PPS, says the district has not received any notice from the U.S. Department of Education concerning the specific complaint. Referring to the Center for Black Student Excellence as “The Grice Adair Center” (the two wings that make up One North are to be named after two prominent local Black educators), Grose emphasized programming would be available to all students.

“The Grice Adair Center represents our ongoing commitment to creating a welcoming and supportive environment for all students, not just Black students, to feel seen, valued and heard,” Grose says. “While it was born from a need to address long-standing inequities that have impacted Black learners, its purpose is part of our larger mission to ensure equity and excellence for every student in the district.”

Dead horses, deer carcasses dumped near East Memphis trail cause concern

Candice Grose, public information officer for Shelby County, said the county is trying to figure out where the carcasses came from, and prevent this from happening in the future. For now, she said they’ve been removed.

“The animal carcasses have been removed and properly disposed of, and the situation is being investigated,” Grose said in a statement. “Shelby County Roads and Bridges Division has extensive records documenting every animal carcass that is picked up and every customer that is billed for the pick-up service.
